Saint Kitts and Nevis

The islands of Saint Kitts and Nevis are located in the Caribbean Sea approximately 250 miles east of Puerto Rico. Independence from Britain came in 1983. Two different official seals are known.

Inscription: Bilingual English/French "Post Office / Found open or damaged / and officially secured / Arrivé ouvert ou avarié / et remis en etat" between rectangles with thick frames

Control Number: "P144" at upper right

Description: Registered 1985 cover from Charlestown, Nevis to Chicago, IL that was officially sealed in Nevis. Apparently the envelope was opened by the sender before mailing.

Inscription: Bilingual English/French "Royal Mail / Found open or / damaged and / officially secured"

Control Number: "P144/301510"

Description: Local cover sent in 2001 from Basseterre, St. Kitts to Dieppe Bay "RECEIVED IN DAMAGED CONDITION" and repaired with red "Royal Mail" seal. A rather unusual "RECEIVED IN TAPE CONDITION" handstamp was also applied on the reverse.
