The Federation of Malaya was formed in 1948 by the union of the Federated Malay States and Straits Settlements. Malaya is located on the Malay Peninsula of South East Asia. Only one official seal design is known. See also "Malaysia" and "Straits Settlements."

Description: Malayan official seal used to repair 1954 cover from Perth, Western Australia to Manchester, England damaged enroute in the March 13th crash of a B.O.A.C. (British Overseas Airways Corporation) aircraft at Singapore. The red "SALVAGED MAIL / AIRCRAFT CRASH / SINGAPORE 13.3.1954" auxiliary marking is the most commonly seen handstamp on mails recovered from this wreck.
A similar seal, without the period after "MALAYA" and no control number at left, is also known.
