Mozambique Company

The Mozambique Company consisted of the two chartered territories of Manica and Sofala, in the Portuguese colony of Mozambique. The area is located on the southeast coast of Africa, bordering the Indian Ocean. Shown below is the only Mozambique Company official seal recorded to date. It is believed to be scarce.

Inscription: "Direction des Postes de la Compagnie du Mozambique" ("Directorate of the Posts of the Mozambique Company" in double circular frame with coat of arms and "CORREIO" in center.

Control Number: "M/6A-76-30-25." at bottom right

Description: Censored (and returned to sender) 1942 cover from San Francisco, CA to Beira, Mozambique repaired at left edge with single official seal of the Mozambique Company. Label tied both sides by hexagonal "CORREIOS E TELEGRAFOS" ("POST AND TELEGRAPH") of Beira datestamps.
