The Straits Settlements, made up of the states of Malacca (Melaka in the Malaysian language), Penang (Pulau Pinang), and Singapore (Singapura) were located on the Malay Peninsula in South East Asia. They joined the Federated Malay States in 1948 to become part of the Federation of Malaya. Straits seals are scarce. See also "Malaya" and "Malaysia."
