Four different official seals are recorded from Victoria, an independent state in southeastern Australia. In 1901, Victoria joined the Commonwealth of Australia. Victorian seals are scarce on cover.

Description: Brittle and damaged 1883 mourning cover from Kingstown, Great Britain to Melbourne, Victoria with official seal applied over right edge. June 25th Melbourne receiving cancel on reverse. This is believed to be the earliest seal issued anywhere in Australia.
