Zambia

Five official seals types are recorded from the Republic of Zambia. Formerly known as Northern Rhodesia, Zambia gained independence on October 24, 1964.

Inscription: "REPUBLIC OF ZAMBIA / FOUND OPEN AND OFFICIALLY / CLOSED IN THE POST OFFICE"

Control Number: "20r-M798 3-66 P/F" at top left and "P. 180" at top right

Description: 1967 from Kitwe, Zambia presumably to Salisbury, Southern Rhodesia repaired at bottom with Zambian seal. Label struck by violet boxed Kitwe, Republic of Zambia handstamp marking dated 7 March 1967. Black and red Salibury, Rhodesia Returned Letter Branch datestamps on reverse, one of which ties the seal.

Description: Circa 1969 domestic cover to Kitwe, Zambia sealed on reverse with second type Republic of Zambia officially sealed label.
